Rated 5 out of 5 by Happy Father from Smooth little reel I purchased this little combo set for my 12 year old son to have a backup trout pole and reel. Turns out, it's his primary now and he insists on using NO OTHER. 4lbs fluorocarbon line and some #0 beetle spins with this combo and he's the happiest trout fisherman I've ever seen.

Rated 3 out of 5 by diggyjohn from Was tough finding a good one I got this for my son, he loves it, and I also love the feel of it too. Light, short, easy to use, good action for casting far with just a slight twitch of the wrist. However, it took forever to find one that didn't have a sharp edge on the line opening ring of the reel. I ordered from Gander Mountain online, and when we got it my son and I were checking it out, pulled on the line to put a bend in the rod and see its action, and the line snapped at the reel every time. opened it up and felt immediately that the ring was sharp, looked like the machine that stamped the piece was offset a little, leaving one half of the ring almost like a knife. I took the rod back, but checked before taking it home. Same thing. All 3 rods Gander had in the store had the same issue. The guy running the rod department took them all off the shelves when I pointed it out. I went to the other Gander one town over, 9 out of the 10 they had in stock ALSO had the same sharp, line cutting ring. The guy there didn't remove them from the shelves, though. Just said "eh, people can file that down"... Whatever. So I did find "one" good one out of 14 tested, and yes we love it. Great for the price... But the manufacturing process used to produce it is certainly less than stellar.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Bbach from Reel Stopped working The first fishing trip I used this on, the reel stopped working. Would not cast, or reel any line in. Worked great for about 4 hours. By the way I had to return one for the same reason, so 2 combo's and 2 broke reels.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Ray Ray from stop working 2nd time I used it The retrieval pins extend 1/2 way out when casting, keeping it from casting more than 2 feet. I bought it Cabela's which is a 40 minute drive to return, if they would take it back.

Rated 1 out of 5 by neveragain from Nothing but junk Bought 2 of these to introduce my nephews to fishing. Neither worked at all. The reels are so poorly made it's disgusting. They became bored because the reels would not cast or retrieve. I spent 40 minutes working on them and then went home. The boys are no longer interested in learning how to fish.....thanks Pflueger.
